Location: Sutton
Client: Married 45 year old male.
Problem: This was an existing client of ours who has an existing investment portfolio, but had read on the internet about Venture Capital Trusts (VCT) and Enterprise Investment Schemes (EIS). He read that they provide very good tax breaks, but he didn't understand how they really work or how much to invest in them.
Solution: We used our knowledge of the client's situation and our extensive knowledge of esoteric investments to ensure he invested in a VCT to meet his investment needs. He wanted a VCT that he could fully maximise the tax break available, but had a guaranteed exit strategy at a point in the future, while providing good potential for an investment return. At this time the EIS was not really suitable for what he wanted out of an investment.
Benefit: The client made his VCT investment, benefiting from the available tax break, and also knows that he will be able to exit the investment after the qualifying period set by the HM Revenue.
